In case you missed it, here is the video of most of the students from the 2013 class on the tour of Leimert Park.
We took family snapshots during the class: You can view them here in our SmugMug gallery. If you like any photo that you see, you can click to order directly from SmugMug. You only pay for their service (printing, paper and ink) and shipping. The photographer will not make any money–all goes to Smugmug for a nominal fee. That link is found here.
Our adult class starts in the Fall Sept. 27, 2013. To be kept up to date, please join our mailing list at www.DrKwaku.com

Week 4 Black History 4 Young People: The Afrika You Don’t See, Black Colleges, & Youth and the Law
Posted by drkwaku in Uncategorized on July 18, 2013
Guest lecturers Atty. Jaaye Person-Lynn and Isidra Person-Lynn will take the reins of Black History 4 Young People, Saturday, July 20, 2013, 10 a.m. til Noon. The topics include: The Africa You Don’t See, Black Colleges, True Life 10 Years Out of High School and Youth and the Law. NOTE: Actor and family friend Michael B. Jordan took this pic with Jaaye and Isidra after a recent screening. Jordan is starring in this powerful film titled Fruitvale Station, about Oscar Grant, slain by Oakland Police.
The general perception of Afrika centers on thick forests (known as jungles), wild animals and safaris. To the surprise of many, Afrika has some of the most modern cities and homes in the world. Isidra Person-Lynn, video journalist and educator, will show those, Afrikan customs, symbols and more. This is an eye-opening experience. Attorney Jaaye Person-Lynn will expose legal areas young people should be aware of from protesting and simple infractions and misdemeanors to serious felonies. He will also explain the importance of attending a Black college and its benefits. Don’t miss this very important class.
Tatum Cravens, winner of the Black History Quiz, Week 3. Congratulations!

This impactful class will be remembered for a long time to come.
Also, please scroll below to see our weekly Black History Quiz winners from Week One and Week Two. Special thanks to Simply Wholesome a great and healthy eatery which donates the Gift Certificates your winning children and you will enjoy. They are located at Overhill and Slauson in Los Angeles.
Thank you to Kofi Opantiri who donated two scholarships for students to attend. We thank you for entrusting your students to us and we hope they will enjoy the class!
For our last class where the parents are invited to attend, we are looking for that student who is a great performer in our midst, who wouldn’t ind sharing a song, poem, etc., plus a few budding scholars to share something they have learned from Dr. Kwaku’s history class.
Your Act of Kindness is Appreciated: Finally, after class last week, while students were waiting for parents to arrive, we were down to three students. I want to publicly commend Kendal Lake, who although she was chatting with a friend, while her father was talking to Dr. Kwaku, reached out to chat with another student who was standing alone. We love it when selfless students help us foster a positive community here at Black History 4 Young People. Just wanted to thank her!
And, we have the Simply Wholesome winners!
